Pictures of the Jura mountains
Jura and Grenoble This last weekend I had two trips. The first was on Sunday and was a trip up the Jura mountains. This makes the third time I've climbed this peak (it is the closest to my house after all). Church was canceled on Sunday since there was a church retreat somewhere in France, but I didn't go. The weather looked to be absolutely beautiful so on Saturday night I emailed a few of the other students at CERN to ask if anyone wanted to go. As it turns out, they were also planning a trip up there and invited me to go with them. Early that morning I met them in town and we drove up to the trail head. The hike up was quite nice, as always, and we even did a stretch off of the trail, scaling the cliff for about 200m vertical (lots of small things to climb, not one big one). When we got above the tree line the view was really something else. The clouds just covered all the valley where Geneva is, and you could see all the way across to the alps on the other side.
After our hike up, we went to have ice cream in Geneva (which is always good). Then we went back to one of the student's apartment for tea and dinner. After dinner we shared some fondue which was also good and then we ended up sitting around and talking till after midnight.
That next morning (Monday), I took a bus down to the Geneva train station and took a trip to Grenoble, France for a physics conference there. The trip was rather uneventful except that I got off on the stop on the wrong side of the city and had to take a bus to get to the right place. Oh well. The conference was fun but I didn't have a lot of time for pictures. I also managed to learn a lot of useful information which is also good. It was fun to take my first train trip across Europe, and nice to watch out at the French countryside. Now that I know exactly how all of that works, I'll have to do it some more. leave a comment
