Geneva, Saleve, Church       I have finally managed to find a church here in Geneva. I say finally but it really wasn't that difficult once I got somewhat settled in and started looking. It is an evangelical baptist church (this is their website) that speaks english and has a good young adult group that is fairly active. Today was the second sunday I have gone to church here and I really do like it. The the church as a whole seems very friendly and intersted in more than just meeting on sundays. Hopefully I will find a small group soon too.

After church today some of the people my age went out for lunch nearby. This is apparently a regular tradition among the young adult group there. The food was good and we ate right on the edge of the lake. We took a short walk after that then decided that we would drive up to Mt Saleve which is nearby. (the large hill behind the fountain in the picture) The view from the top was beautiful and we could see a good chunck of the alps from there as well. I get to go hiking in them this thursday some and that should be a good time.

On another fun note. The fountain in the picture is really quite amazing: it shoots up about 450 feet!! It becomes one of the most visable landmarks (watermarks?) in the Geneva region and towers over all the other buildings. From the top of Saleve and Reculet it is the first thing that catches your eye (Reculet is the first mountain I climbed when I got here and is in the Jura Mountain range behind CERN, 1717m elevation). Now for a few other fun stats about it. It pushes out about .5 cubic meters of water a second, very roughly that is about 2,500 pounds a second of water. To push the water 450 feet in the air it has to be traveling about 130 miles per hour when it leaves the fountain. What sort of machinery does this take? Sixteen tons of pumps using about one MEGAwatt of electricity. But to stand below it and look up is really something. Quite beautiful. leave a comment

One of these days I'll have my own computer and can format these better, for now......

btw these are not my pictures, I will post my own as soon as I have a computer again.
